Friday 05/09/2014 - The Square Play of the Day!
St. Louis Cardinals @ The Pittsburgh Pirates
Wacha (R) (2-3) 2.55 ERA @ Liriano (L) (0-3) 4.54 ERA

In today's Friday Night, Square Play of the Day, we have the young star Michael Wacha, visiting the Pirates and the veteran Fransico Liriano. Michael Wacha, like most young pitchers with a low ERA, is a fan favorite who the public loves to jump on especially with a low number. This line opened up at around the Cardinals -120 mark at most books and has only had minor fluctuations so far, no real big money on either side.

With the number being so low, we expect the public to be all over Wacha. Although, the Cardinals come into this game having lost Wacha's last four starts, despite some really good outings (no run support). Wacha comes into this game with a .308 BaBIP (Batting Average Balls in Play), last year he put up a a .276 making his career average so far at .289, remember we expect those numbers to average out right around .300 career, so we can expect to see this number continue to increase by the time the season ends.

The Pirates come into this game having won Liriano's last three starts despite Liriano not getting a single win this season, and Liriano is coming off his worst GSc (Game Score) putting up a 31. History will tell you that its very rare for Liriano to have back to back bad outings. If we look at last year, after putting up a 36, he responded with a 70, after putting up a 33, he came back with an 80, after a 29, he got a 82 and the trend continued. Due to these numbers we are expecting Liriano to put on yet another high GSc.

When looking at this match-up we must also consider the fact that this is the Cardinal's 7th consecutive game on the road, and this is the Pirates 7th consecutive game at home. Both teams are also coming off wins, which neither team has done well after a win this season and both teams had yesterday off. The Cardinals this season after a day off are 0-4, while the Pirates after a day off are 3-1, and we already know the Cardinal's track record vs. Lefties.
